A unique and powerful approach to pain relief
We’ve all heard of the skeletal system and the muscular system, but what about the fascial system that actually connects the two? The Rossiter System is a series of powerful and effective techniques that address structural pain and restriction of movement at it’s source – our fascia.
The fascia is a network of connect tissue that, when magnified, looks like cobwebs. Tight fascia, or connective tissue, is often the source of stress, immobility, and pain in our body, yet fascia does not show up on x-rays, CT Scans or MRI’s.
The Rossiter System works by stretching deep, connective tissue and creating space to lessen irritation on nerve endings, thereby decreasing pain sensations. Joints no longer rub together (arthritis symptoms dissipate), ligaments don’t rub and tear, nerves conduct impulses normally (instead of going numb, zingy, or buzzy, especially at night), and discs and vertebrae are no longer compressed. The body is able to move freely again without restriction, friction or tension.
It’s a workout, NOT a massage
Rossiter is a workout, not a treatment, massage or therapy. It is serious, deliberate stretching, based on concepts from structural integration and created by a certified, advanced Rolfer. Rossiter is a unique form of two-person stretching that provides fast, effective and natural pain relief.
Rossiter System workouts are a two-person, pin-and-stretch technique that restore ease of movement, loosening tightness in your body quickly and effectively, to eliminate the source of pain. It is stretching in a way your body recognizes instantly as what it needs to help heal itself.
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Low back and hip pain
- Repetitive stress injuries
- Stiff necks, sore shoulders and arms
- Foot pain, and Plantar Fasciitis
- Tight calf muscles and hamstrings
- Restless Leg Syndrome
- Hand, finger & thumb pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Elbow tendonitis
- … and more!
I had heard great things about Rossiter and wanted to give it a try for relief from the arthritis in my hand. After my very first session, I could immediately feel a difference in the mobility in my right hand. Jessica was excellent at explaining the technique and what to expect. I'm excited to try another session.
I went to see Jessica for my Plantar Fasciitis. After only 4 sessions, my pain is gone! I can now get out of bed without the dread of immediate pain in my foot. I was suffering needlessly for over a year!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For your session, you should dress in loose, comfortable clothing. A Rossiter session’s length can vary, but generally takes between 30 and 50 minutes.
The workout will consist of a powerful TWO-PERSON stretch of the connective tissue system, which is done by a Rossiter-trained Coach (me) and the PIC (you), which stands for the Person in Charge.
For most of your workouts, you will lie on a mat on the floor, while the Coach places their foot on a very specific part of your body to anchor tissue in place during movement; that adds power to the stretch.
The weight and the warmth of the Coach’s foot, combined with powerful stretching by the PIC, warm and loosen the connective tissue, enabling the tissue to unravel its grip and allow freedom of movement again. When the connective tissue is freed and provides ‘space’ to the body (joints, muscles), tightness eases, pain ebbs and the body’s structures are no longer pinched, squeezed, bulged or trapped.
Although short, the workout is intense. Rest assured that the PIC (you) is always in control of everything, including the amount of weight used by the Coach. After a session, and even after each stretch, the client generally feels immediate results in terms of loseness, less pain and better mobility.
It can vary and depends greatly on how long you have had pain. If you have been suffering for years, it may take several weeks to begin to feel pain-free most of the time. For many people, however, pain relief will come in minutes, a few days or weeks – rarely one month. The harder you work and the more attention you pay to details, the quicker you’ll experience results.
Each person is different, and so are their bodies and needs. Newer or simpler problems may see dramatic improvement with only one or two Rossiter sessions to provide relief. More complex or older injuries often take longer and may require two or more sessions per week for optimal, lasting results.
Because the Rossiter System is a workout, there are times when it’s not recommend to clients. Instances such as recent surgeries, cortisone injections, broken bones and some disease processes, such as cancer, may prohibit clients from adequately performing the stretches.
Other contraindications include:
- Pain killers (prescription or OTC) within the past 12 hours before session
- Breast implants (only certain techniques are safe)
- Cancer within five years
- Pacemaker implants
- Patches, either nicotine or Norplant (areas with patch to be avoided)
- Surgery within the past six months
- Target area injected with cortisone within six months
- Broken bones, open wounds, rashes, contagious diseases, visible varicous veins, etc.
In addition, the following conditions may limit effectiveness and/or require physician approval:
- Guillian-Barré Syndrome
- Osteoarthritis & Osteoporosis
- Currently taking any broad spectrum antibiotics, or blood thinners including: Heparin, Aspirin, Warfarin
- Previous back surgery and resultant tissue scarring
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Please note: You MUST be able to get up and down off the floor WITHOUT ASSISTANCE to adequately perform Rossiter stretches.
